DEPARTMENT OF CHEMISTRY

The Hirasugar Institute Of Technology was started in the year 1996 by S.J.P.N.Trust incorporating Department of Engg. Chemistry as one of the basic science department. The major activity was to build up infrastructure for laboratory work in chemistry and Staffing. The laboratory and classrooms were shifted in the new building in the year 2004.The laboratory and classrooms are provided as per A.I.C.T.E. norms. The lab area is

200 Square meter and two class rooms (70 Square meter+70 Square meter). Four working tables measuring 20′9″x 5′8″ with ceramic tile surface racks, gas and water, electricity HT Power line are provided procurement of laboratory equipments, glassware’s and chemicals has been as per the V.T.U. syllabus spending about 9 lacks rupees. Computer facility, charts, special instruction room, preparation room , HOD and Staffroom are incorporated. Ventilation and sufficient light , fans, fire extinguisher’s , glass board are used in the lab and class rooms . Lab experiments are conducted in accordance with prescribed syllabus. Dr. G.S. Nadagouda M.Sc. Ph.D. is the prof. and HOD. Shri M.S. Hanagadakar. M.Sc. Lecturer who is doing Ph.D. Miss. S.S. Kankanwadi . M.Sc.B.Ed. is the Instructor and Shri M.S.Kadalagi is the helper.

Academic Activities: The result of students in Engg.Chemistry in B.E. I/II semester every year is about 80%. It was 96.4% in the year 2008. Three internal assessment tests are conducted. Assignments are given and checked after submission. Lab test is conducted, students counseling is done for their better improvement of result. Letters are sent to parents, student’s feed back is taken.

Other Activities: The department has helped the students in carrying out of projects of different departments in the college. Some projects have bagged State level and National level prizess. Also help the students in paper presentation. The HOD Dr G.S.Nadagouda is the author of Engg. Chemistry text book. He has published Five research papers in national and international journals. Attended national and international seminars.
