DEPARTMENT OF PHYSICS

The total area of Physics lab is 200m 2 so as to fulfill the AICTE norm. The department is provided with a black board and desks for giving instructions to the students. It is also provided with an Optics lab. of area 10m 2 for performing the experiments like diffraction of laser beam, which employ monochromatic light beam. For H.O.D. and staff separate cabins have been provided within the area of 10m 2. The lab is well equipped with following major equipments.

List of experiments

1

Series & Parallel L-C-R circuits

2

I-V characteristics of Zener diode

3

Characteristics of a Transistor

4

Measurement of Dielectric constant

5

Magnetic properties by B-H graph method

6

Determination of Planck’s constant using LED’s

7

Mr. M. K. Rendale (M.Sc. registered for Ph.D.), HOD and Miss Vaishali R. Bote (M.Sc.), lecturer are the well experienced teaching staff in the department. Mr.G. B. Doddagoudar (B.Sc.), Instructor and Mr. B. D. Gurav, Lab. attender are also well experienced non-teaching staff in the department.

The strength of the students in each batch is normally 15 and for each student separate experimental set up will be provided for performing the experiment. For keeping bags or other materials, racks have been provided. For each student lab manual will be provided in the beginning of the semester. The continuous assessment of lab. performance of each student will be carried out every week after successful completion of an experiment. At the end of the semester an internal lab test and viva-voce will be conducted. Based on attendance performance through out the semester, performance in the continuous evaluation process and internal lab test and viva-voce conducted at the end of the semester, a student will be awarded the lab. internal marks out of 25. The result of the students in the VTU examinations in the subjects of “ Engg. Physics” and “ Engg. Physics lab.” are analysed to be more than 90% for the last three years.
